| What you didn't see in the MOTHER 3 Handbook and other stuff |
[Oct. 1st, 2009|04:05 pm] |
|
A few weeks ago I updated my site. That should be a good reason enough to make a new post on LJ, right? So anyway: - There's a new gallery with drawings and sketches for the MOTHER 3 Handbook that didn't make it in the final release. The gallery is here, and I'll probably update it again with some hand drawn sketches.
- I did some drawings with Mario Paint (and before you have to say something, yes, I own the original thing). It was harder than I thought, but quite fun nonetheless. You can find them in the Pixelart gallery.
- Lastly, a couple of pictures from what I'm currently watching right now: the third season of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, and my daily dose of sugar, K-On.

And now, back to PHP! |

Sure, Twitter is probably a better solution for a short poster such as myself, but I can't forget LJ, especially because I wrote something on my birthday every year. I can't also forget that nice Perry Bible Fellowship strip, which is still one of the finest (web)comics around:

Oh, and I just entered the big 30s. Be nice to me for the next ten years! |

| Rhythm Tengoku - Surprise localization! |
[Mar. 30th, 2009|12:20 pm] |
Apparently RH's street date has been broken, and videos of its localization are showing up on YouTube.
While I did expect some kind of translation for some of the songs with lyrics, I did not expect it could turn out like this. The Frog Dance level doesn't sound that bad, but the two Idol levels are surprisingly awful. It's like they forced an amateur singer to do something she didn't want to do at all, and she ends up sounding bored and annoyed, losing much of the energy and catchiness of the original. I'm not sure how this could happen, especially in a first-party title that is usually the definition of polish. |

| Ponyo won't come out at night |
[Mar. 29th, 2009|10:59 pm] |
Animation Age Ghetto strikes again! This time is the turn of the fantabulous Ponyo on the Cliff, which just got released in our theaters, but can only be shown in the afternoon. If you want to watch it later, let's say 9PM, tough luck! As it's "just" a cartoon, and cartoons are for kids™, you're not supposed to see children going to the movies after dinner. It's a real shame, because this kind of programming will send the movie to die. At least I hope the word-of-mouth will be strong enough to convince most people to watch it anyways. Ponyo is such a feast for the eyes and a huge, beautiful exception in a world of computer-generated animation that seems the only way to go. |

| Rhythm Tengoku! |
[Mar. 26th, 2009|10:10 pm] |
I can't wait for Rhythm Heaven to come out. Most of all, I wonder how they'll localize it: as I've been playing the original GBA title and its DS sequel, there are full songs with lyrics and they are, of course, in Japanese, having been written by Tsunku, the man responsible for the J-Pop group sensation, Morning Musume. As I was browsing YouTube, I stumbled upon some of the songs in the game, performed LIVE, of all things.
• You play as an Idol (the last one) in this level. • Live version, the song is shorter.
• In this other minigame you are a monkey clapping along with another Idol. • Live version, those over-excited little girls kinda creep me out. • This song must be popular even among 5 years old girls with insane drumming skills.
• Unfortunately, I couldn't find a live version of the uber difficult Kero Kero Dance.
Anyway, the game is totally crazy and most of the songs are tremendously catchy. So, get it when it comes out! |

| Twitteroo, everyone |
[Mar. 22nd, 2009|11:27 pm] |
While I intend to stay away from Facebook as much as I can, I joined the latest social network thing, Twitter, just to see what the fuss is all about. Let's just hope it won't be a new Animal Crossing (updating like crazy the first few weeks, forgetting about it after a few months). I'm right over here for those interested.
Yet another username/password combination to remember. Thank goodness for Keypass! |

| Translating, drawing, layouting |
[Feb. 6th, 2009|04:53 pm] |
Some news from the projects I'm working on:
- The MOTHER 3 Italian Translation is making great progress! I recently uploaded a couple of videos showing what we've done so far.
- Speaking of MOTHER 3: a couple of months ago I published some pictures with yours truly drawing Lucas for the Handbook. Just like most drawings of mine, it all started with a scribble on the back of some notebook when I forced myself to look away from the monitor to relax my eyes. I realized I could improve the thing, which led me to move it to the tablet later at home and start tracing.
Working on the MOTHER 3 Handbook has been a great opportunity to improve my skills, even though I have to do other things for a living. Thanks Fangamer!
- I also created a new wintery layout for Heidi's website. I really like it, it's calm and relaxing. Go Poe! |

| Why do I love this kind of games? |
[Dec. 5th, 2008|10:41 pm] |
|
My dentist told me to stay away from sweets for a while. "What about digital sweets?" I asked, "Those are fine" he replied "then again, I don't know you're talking about".
So I took his advise by heart and promptly got this pack of digital sweets, which was also discounted for some reason.

I think he was wrong though, there's way too much saccharine in this game, and I feel like I'm starting to get cavities again. |

| I'd like Change for 60 millions of us, please |
[Nov. 8th, 2008|04:56 pm] |
So, even if we live on the other side of the planet you can feel the excitement for the election of the new US President Obama. I really hope his message of change will make it over here as soon as possible, where our politics is stagnant and obsolete. I think we are probably one of the very few countries of the western world whose President and Prime Minister are 83 and 72 years old, respectively. -- I made another drawing, which goes a bit in the NSFW territory, then again I think it's probably not. Anyway, enjoy this fanservice-y picture. |

Dearest United States Citizens, when I woke up this morning and saw the sun after too many days of November rain, I knew something was different. I'd love to come over to celebrate with you guys, you just created history.

| The MOTHER 3 Handbook |
[Oct. 23rd, 2008|02:37 pm] |
So I guess it's now safe to reveal that yes, I've been working on the MOTHER 3 Handbook since last June, drawing over 200 illustrations. It's exciting to be a part of a project that is receiving so much praise from all over the web, plus it's great to be back on helping the Starmen.Net community again as a Fangamer contributor. My job has been taking most of my time, but I finally decided to save a few daily hours for this huge project, just because the whole community (and the game itself) deserves it. I really hope you guys like the final product when it'll ship next January. In the meantime here are some samples, just in time for the Halloween month.

I know I'm probably the last person who should point this out, BUT...
Did she just say.. "nucular"?! Didn't any journalist or moderator or something tell her how to pronounce "nuclear"?
PS: Oh, hai, I'm back. Been busy with lots of things, still am. |

After bitching too much about it, I decided to man up and get one of these babies already. Behold, my new Wacom Intuos 3.
Expensive as heck, but it was worth it. Those zoom in/zoom out touchpads are pretty handy. |

| tableting |
[Jun. 18th, 2008|05:23 pm] |
|
First: get the new Firefox. It's [insert comparative adjective here]! I've been artying a bit as of lately, thanks to a tablet left alone at work during lunch time. Yes, I've been skipping my lunch because drawing with a tablet is so engaging.
I also got a Flickr account, which I quickly used to put some photos, the pictures above and a brand new one, Flonne from Disgaea:
I should probably get my own tablet already. |

| fanmade "phoenix wright: ace attorney" box art |
[May. 14th, 2008|05:57 pm] |
One of the many things I like of the whole Ace Attorney series is the box art layout, which has been the same through the years. Seeing those four portraits of the various main characters makes for an elegant and simple design which instantly inspires a sense of familiarity to anyone who already played one of these games. Well, except for the first title, that is.
Back then the guys at Capcom opted for a more generic promotional artwork when they finally decided to release the game overseas (let's not even consider the bland European one). Japan instead always had the same template for their four DS iterations.
I then decided to recreate the first game box art by using the same layout of the other three. So I took the Japanese original as the template, got some wallpapers and character art from the ever useful Court Records fan site, and quickly came up with this:
I think it gets the job done. Of course, there's also the original original 300dpi jpeg, which is available here. You can print it out and fix your Ace Attorney box art collection. |

| rated E for "excluding europe" |
[May. 5th, 2008|03:09 pm] |
The recent ESRB listing of EarthBound (with the capital B!) for the Virtual Console is a joyous occasion and calls for celebration. Except that I'm more than sure that it won't make it to Europe. NoE loves to screw us over, so if we didn't get it when it first came out, we won't get it on VC either. It's not pessimism, it's resignation.
Oh well, at least you guys have fun with it, even for us! |
